JUMP TO THIS MONTH'S EVENTS

Second Harvest

September opens with the Sun still in Virgo, sorting through what August's eclipses turned over. The grain harvest is behind you now — Lammas bread eaten, the Ceres altar gone quiet — and the work shifts from field to orchard. Apples come in heavy this month, along with squash and the last stubborn tomatoes holding on past their season. The New Moon lands in Virgo on the 11th, close and private, good for planning that doesn't need an audience yet. Mercury moves into Libra on the 10th, the same day Venus enters Scorpio, and the month's tone shifts from analysis toward something warmer and more searching — conversations soften, but they also start reaching for what's underneath.

Pomona presides over September from the Roman orchard. She carries no myth of loss, no descent, nothing that needs retelling every year. She is the keeper of grafted trees — the one who taught people to prune a branch back so the tree could put its strength into fewer, better fruit, to graft one variety onto another's rootstock and get something neither could produce alone. Her pruning knife is the only attribute worth remembering. Pomona doesn't concern herself with what grows wild; she asks what you're willing to cut back so the rest can bear more. September's harvest came from years of tending something already established, not from a single season's planting.

The equinox is this month's hinge, arriving when the Sun enters Libra on the 23rd. Day and night hold equal weight for a moment before the dark starts to win. This is Mabon, the second harvest — apples, walnuts, whatever's left in the garden — and where Lammas was grain and bread and physical labor, Mabon is the ledger. What did the year actually produce, and what's left over once winter's accounted for? The Full Moon in Aries on the 26th lands just after, bright and a little combative, asking you to defend whatever the equinox handed you.

Mercury enters Scorpio on the 30th, closing the month with a mind that wants to dig rather than list. The tidy accounting of the equinox gives way to something more private — the kind of thinking that happens after dark, turning over what the harvest actually cost to bring in.

By the end of September, the garden has thinned out and the ledger's been opened. Pomona's knife rests somewhere nearby, and whatever got cut back this month should already be feeding what's left standing.

Reflect on: What did you tend this year rather than start from scratch — a relationship, a skill, a piece of work already underway when the year began? Where do you need to prune something back so the rest of it can thrive? What did the harvest actually cost you, in time or energy or attention, and was it worth the price? Standing at the equinox, what feels balanced in your life right now, and what's still tipped too far to one side?

Set intentions for: Cutting back what's drawing energy from something more worth keeping — a project, a habit, an obligation past its use. Taking the equinox seriously as a moment to actually tally the year, not just feel its mood. Letting Scorpio-toned Mercury take you somewhere honest rather than staying on the surface. Meeting the Full Moon in Aries without needing to win the argument it stirs up.

Rituals: Cut open an apple crosswise to reveal the five-pointed star inside, and use it for a small round of divination — a practice worth expanding once Dayna's section comes in. Build a Mabon altar with apples, walnuts, a scale or two balanced objects, and something gold or brown for the turning leaves. On the equinox, stand outside at sunrise or sunset and hold something in each hand — one thing you're grateful for, one thing you're ready to release — until the weight feels even. Make a batch of apple butter or baked apples and share it, since Mabon has always been a harvest meant for other people's tables, not just your own. Under the Full Moon in Aries, write down one thing you're still defending that might be ready to let go of, and sit with it rather than acting on it right away.

Virgo + Libra

September moves from Virgo's sorting hands into Libra's steady scale, tracing the arc from separating what matters to weighing it fairly. No eclipse forces the pace this month — the shift happens at the speed of an actual harvest being sorted, an actual season changing over.

  • Virgo season carries into September with Mercury moving into Libra on the 10th and Venus into Scorpio the same day — the analytical mind starts softening toward diplomacy before the season officially turns. The New Moon lands in Virgo on the 11th, private and exacting, suited to plans that need refining rather than announcing. The Hermit still governs this stretch, lantern raised, more interested in getting it right than in getting it seen. Virgo's late-month work is finishing what August started: checking the harvest for what's actually sound underneath the parts that looked impressive in the field.
  • Libra season opens on the 23rd when the Sun crosses into it exactly at the equinox — day and night held level for one breath before the dark starts to outweigh the light. Justice rules here, scales even, sword upright, an honest accounting of what's actually owed and to whom, measured rather than merely felt. The Full Moon in Aries on the 26th arrives almost immediately after, urgent and a little combative, pushing back against whatever balance the equinox just established. Mercury follows into Scorpio on the 30th, and the last days of the month trade Libra's careful weighing for something that wants to dig underneath the scale altogether.

September offers the passage from discernment to balance. Virgo finishes the sorting work the eclipses started in August. Libra arrives to weigh what's left, holding light and dark in equal hands for exactly as long as the equinox allows. The month shows that judgment isn't finished until it's been measured against something outside itself.

The Hermit + Justice

September's two ruling cards trace the same arc as its seasons — Virgo's Hermit carries the first half, Justice arrives with Libra to carry the second, and the passage between them is the distance between sorting truth out on your own and having it weighed against something outside yourself.

  • The Hermit still walks through the opening weeks of September, lantern raised, finishing the work Virgo season started in August. There's nothing dramatic about this card — no eclipse forcing the issue, no door swinging open. Mercury's move into Libra on the 10th and the New Moon in Virgo on the 11th both ask for the same thing The Hermit already knows: sit with it a while longer before you speak it out loud. His solitude isn't withdrawal. It's the condition honest sorting requires — no audience, no need to perform the conclusion before you've actually reached it. September opens by finishing that private work, checking the harvest one more time before it goes anywhere public.
  • Justice steps forward when the Sun crosses into Libra on the 23rd, scales level, sword upright, unmoved by sentiment. Where The Hermit works alone, Justice works in relation — nothing gets weighed without something to weigh it against. She arrives exactly at the equinox, when day and night hold equal measure for one breath before the dark starts to outweigh the light, and her teaching is that balance isn't a feeling, it's a measurement taken honestly. The Full Moon in Aries on the 26th tests that measurement almost immediately, hot and impatient, wanting to act before the scale has finished settling. Justice's answer is to let it settle anyway. Mercury's move into Scorpio on the 30th then takes whatever conclusion Justice reached and starts turning it over again, checking it against what's underneath.

Together, The Hermit and Justice teach September's central lesson. The Hermit says: know what you actually think before anyone else weighs in. Justice says: now hold it up against something real and see if it still balances.

W O R K B O O K

This month's workbook turns from harvest to reckoning — apple magic, equinox ritual, Virgo-to-Libra seasonal wisdom, and tarot work built around one question: what did the year actually produce, and what's it worth once you weigh it?

WORKBOOK

LUNAR LIVING

M O O N   G U I D A N C E

The New Moon in Virgo on the 11th asks for private, exacting groundwork, while the Full Moon in Aries on the 26th arrives hot on the equinox's heels, testing whatever balance you just found. Work with these lunar phases to sort what needs quiet refinement from what's ready to be tested out loud.

MOON GUIDANCE

 DECLUTTER & REBLANCE

C H A L L E N G E

Four weeks of clearing space and evening the scale. Each week turns your attention toward a different kind of excess: physical clutter, overcommitted time, relationships pulled out of proportion, and the habits of mind that tip you off center. The work here is practical — sort, reduce, adjust — done with clear eyes and a willingness to let some things go.

Balance & Release

September marks the turning point. This is a month of balance, reflection, gratitude, and the beginning of descent, where the outward energy of summer softens and we are invited inward.

The Hanged Man shifts our perspective, asking for surrender rather than control. Death moves us through necessary endings, clearing space for transformation that cannot be rushed. Together, they guide us into the art of release as a sacred act.
The Five of Cups holds grief and gratitude side by side, while the Two of Swords reveals where we have been avoiding truth. The Six of Swords offers passage, a gentle movement away from what has been toward what could be.

The King of Cups anchors this journey in emotional maturity, reminding us that feeling deeply and holding steady are not opposites, but companions.

This is a space to honor endings without resistance. To trust the wisdom of transition. To allow yourself to feel, release, and move forward with compassion. Come ready to soften, to see clearly, and to let go with intention.

BOOK CLUB

Join us this month as we step into the hauntingly beautiful world of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, V.E. Schwab’s timeless tale of freedom, longing, and the cost of being remembered.

In 1714, desperate to escape a life she never chose, Addie makes a bargain with a dark god: she will live forever—but be forgotten by everyone she meets. What follows is a sweeping journey across centuries as Addie learns to survive, to create, to love, and to leave her mark in ways no one can quite name.

Everything changes when, after nearly 300 years of anonymity, a man in a New York bookstore remembers her name. Their connection cracks open questions about identity, legacy, desire, and the stories we cling to in order to feel real.

This novel invites us to reflect on what it means to be seen, to matter, and to choose our own path—even when the world refuses to hold onto us. Join us for a rich discussion filled with yearning, magic, and the delicate thread between freedom and belonging.
